The first part of the process is to decide on the size of the painting you’d like to have. Visit the Prices and Sizes page to help guide you.
Selecting Photo References
Next, choose a set of reference photos (at least 3 good quality, well lit shots) and to think about composition and any additional elements you might like included. These could include favorite toys, background color, orientation and composition, for example. Ideally, photos should be taken at the same level as your pet and not shot from above, facing down. The quality and resolution of the photo is very important in order to see as much detail as possible. If the composition is to include another pet, that will add another 50% to the price.
Using the photos you supply as reference, I start by creating a charcoal drawing on the hardwood support. When that is complete, I will text or email a photo to make sure it meets with your approval and captures the personality of your fur buddy exactly.
From that point, I begin painting. I always start with the eyes and nose, mouth and ears before moving to the rest of the body. My goal is to capture the light behind your pets eyes and bring them to life.
Completion Time
It may take from 2 - 3 weeks to finish your portrait. I will keep you up to date on my progress.
When the painting is complete and the final varnish dried, we’ll schedule a meeting for your final approval. I hope at that time you will be quite happy with your painting.
Payment and Guarantee
My work is guaranteed. If you don’t like the finished painting for any reason, I don’t want you to pay for something you won’t be happy with.
